Research from dissertation.
It seems like an age ago that I was producing my
dissertation and reading over it again made me feel a sense of pride in what I’ve
produced. I wanted to have a read over it as I feel as if the vast majority of
my research for the major project is within the text as I always planned my
project to be based around the changing landscape and specifically photographers
like Burtynsky and Derek Mossop.
Revisiting my text on these photographers should effectively lead me down the
path I want to be on and keep me on track with visual inspiration and dialog to
back the theoretical aspect of things.
Dereck Mossop
Carleton Watkins
Edward Burtynsky
These were the three main photographer I discussed in my
dissertation, and these will be the three style of photography I will try to
incorporate with my own to complete my project. The reason why I chose
Burtynsky is because of the diverse range of subject matter he photographs. He
adapts his themes to suit the current issues the planet faces whilst adopting a
God’s eye view that features in almost all his work. Mossop’s work takes more
of a documentary style with a slightly less complex compositional style.
However his honesty in depicting what he sees is something that I aim to include
as it will be a key link between all my images and making it relevant to current
society. Lastly Watkins who is one of my favourite photographers will be
incorporated through the use of symbolism which he used to help preserve the Yosemite Valley.
Adding this will contribute to the overall effect of the images.
